The events of the last few weeks have asked and invited many of us to examine our biases, our racism born out of the systemic, embedded racism in our society. In response to this task the Diversity Committee is moving up the rescheduling our Covid-postponed Diversity Book Group “Contemporary African-American Poets” to June 27.
Poetry compresses and focuses ideas and emotions. It can be intense and evocative. It is one of the arts that has the potential to help us transcend differences and can express in few words what prose can take whole books to convey. We will be reading the poetry of several contemporary African-American poets. It will be with the aid of these poets that we will have the opportunity, in community, to make meaning and to examine our own sentiments.
The poems will be sent to all who RSVP along with the Zoom link for this event. Some people have already received the poems, but please let us know if you are newly joining us and need them.
RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org ASAP, please with a deadline of 6/21. It takes us some time and effort to send out the poems and we want to be sure everyone has a chance to read.
We look forward to seeing you, however virtual it may be.
