Somatic Complaints: How and when to use them as a guide in dynamic work

June 4, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 12:40 pm

About this event

**There is a 20 person limit on this event. 2 CE hours available for NYS Practitioners*

Adolescent and adult patients often bring up concerns about their bodies (e.g. pains, stomach upset, physical tension) during the course of psychodynamic treatment. We will discuss situations where these complaints were not the primary reason for seeking treatment but rather as they came up during the course of an ongoing psychotherapy. A brief introduction to the psychodynamic literature on psychosomatics will be presented together with some case material.

1. Participants will be introduced to the psychodynamic ideas about mind/body, psychosomatic conditions.

2. Participants will gain a basic framework for addressing these types of conditions in psychotherapy
